Abadan to pay tribute to veteran filmmaker Amir Naderi

The 58th edition of the Arvand Regional Young Cinema Festival in the southern Iranian city of Abadan has set to pay tribute to the veteran filmmaker Amir Naderi.

The festival’s news department recently announced that Amir Naderi’s commemoration ceremony will takes place in the closing ceremony.

Reviewing his style of filmmaking and showcasing some unseen photos and reports will be among the most important parts of the closing ceremony.

Some of his remarkable works and films will also be screened for the audience during the event.

Naderi grew up in the riverside city of Abadan, where he developed an interest in photography, urban experience and everyday life, as well as the aesthetics of Italian neorealist cinema, such as location shooting, the use of nonprofessional actors, looser narrative structures, and a focus on the plight of poor and working-class people.

Naderi's early films explored similar themes and visual strategies, but they did so within the context of Iranian life and culture.

Some of Naderi’s works include ‘Harmonica’ (1970), ‘Waiting’ (1974), ‘The Runner’ (1985), ‘Water, Wind, Soil’ (1989), ‘Sound Barrier’ (2005) and ‘Cut’ (2011).

He has received a number of awards from different international film festivals, including the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory at the 73rd Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award is dedicated to professionals who have made a significant contribution to contemporary cinema.

The 58th Arvand Regional Young Cinema Festival is slated for December 24-27, 2017, in Abadan.
